Quick Styling Fixes

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

The best way to make the most our of your haircut is to style your hair to the best of your ability! However, it is important to have the right products, brushes and even blow-dryers to help you with your styling.

First, it is most important of all to use the right shampoo and conditioner for your hair type. Our stylist and assistants are trained with all of the products at TEN and are happy to give you your “hair prescription” at any time. This is the foundation for not only your style, but your color as well.

Secondly. the styling products you use next are going to determine what volume and texture you are going to have. Selecting the right product will ensure you are getting the optimum lift and fullness and the least amount of frizz or stiffness. For example, Kerastatse’s Oleo Curl Creme is a great product for thicker hair with moderate to extreme curl to create loose curl while eliminating frizz. However, the same product can be used in slightly wavy hair as a leave-in conditioner that creates movement and texture in a blow out. Also, with fine hair Kerastatse offers not only moose as volumizers but also sprays that add texture as well. With plenty of options in styling products, it is important to find products that help create your style and don’t ever limit yourself to one product, mix them together and create a cocktail of product!

Next are brushes and blow-dryers. It is important to get the right type of brush, depending on the style you are creating. A paddle brush is great for long, medium thick hair to create a sleek look and to eliminate frizz. A round brush is generally the best brush though, because of it’s versatility. It helps create volume, add texture to bring out layers and can straighten curls. When selecting a brush, also pay special attention to the type of bristles. Most important of all, look for a brush that is ionic to reduce the effects of humidity and ceramic to ensure the hair will completely dry. When it comes to hair-dryers, considering there is a wide range in price, the general rule applies, the more expensive generally the better the product. The stylist at TEN use T3 dryers because of the light-weight and fast drying technology. These dryers generally weight 3 lbs. and with their ionic drying, they dry hair up to 70% faster and eliminate frizz. These two tools alone can make or break a style.

Take these tips to heart and implement them into your styling routine. Also, always ask your stylist which products they are using to create your style and what the recommend for your at home styling. Again, styling your hair is the best way to make the most of your haircut and we encourage you to embrace trying new techniques and products to achieve the best looking you!

Jo Blackwell Demo Brook watching

Ten Salon, Ponte Vedra Beach, welcomes Jo Blackwell-Preston for a day of technical direction and artistic inspiration. Jo is one of the best known colorists in the business, owner of DopDop Salon in New York’s SOHO and a Portfolio Artist for L’Oreal Professional. She travels the world inspiring hairdressers with her no nonsense approach to color and highlighting techniques.

Ten Salon was exited to have Jo up close and personal. Although space was limited to twenty people the salon decided to invite stylists from local salons to join in, one stylist traveled all the way from Deland. The day started with a question and answer period and then a session of “look and learn” as Jo demonstrated on live models and then a “hands on” approach as the staff executed techniques themselves. The final segment had everyone regroup and go over what was learned and the completion of all new or unanswered questions.

The staff of Ten is known for always being up on the latest style trends and delivering the most beautiful, healthy hair possible. We offer the highest quality hair color and lightening products on the market, L’Oreal Professional, and help clients maintain their look with luxury at home care like Kerastase, Shu Uemura, Serie Expert/Texture Expert and our very own range of Ten Salon products.  By having Jo and inviting outside stylists it not only raises the bar in the salon but also raises the bar for the local salon culture as well. We plan to make these in house educational seminars an annual event for all professionals who may be interested.

Luxury Lightening

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

Ten Salon, the first salon in North Florida to offer the luxury line Kérastase®, is now first to offer Luxury Lightening services. The blonde revolution begins with a new lightener from L’Oreal Professional® named Platinum®. Platinum is the first patented lightener that restores and maintains the hair lipid level. The result is shiny, silky natural feeling hair.

Lipids form the intercellular cement that is responsible for healthy hair. Once lipid levels are depleted, the hair becomes dry and is more prone to damage and breakage. Platinum maintains lipid levels, leaving the hair in better condition and less damaged than traditional lighteners. Nutri-ceride® is used to restore and protect the hair. White beeswax keeps the hair soft and smooth, and enveloping lipids maintain natural protection. For those of us with a “blonde addiction” this means beautiful color and great condition, two things that do not always go hand in hand.

Platinum can be used for subtle effect or for light blonding, either in a highlight or a full head lightening. Say “good-bye” to fry-lites and “hello” to luxury-lites. Our staff will be happy to assist you in determining the right “light look” for you!
